Indianapolis, Indiana (PRWEB) August 05, 2013
In Indianapolis, Indiana the IND Solar Farm at the Indianapolis International Airport has introduced unique opportunities to local businesses. Several Indianapolis metropolitan based organizations such as Indianapolis Airport Authority (IAA), the City of Indianapolis, GES, Telamon Corporation, Johnson Melloh Solutions, Cenergy Power and Indianapolis Power & Light Company (IPL) have partnered in bringing the IND Solar Farm to fruition.
Project partner Indianapolis Power and Light, has continued its commitment to excellence and energy responsibility with their involvement and support in North Americas largest solar project at the Indianapolis International Airport. Solar generation is an important part of IPLs commitment to developing renewable generating resources. IPL is committed to maintaining a balanced electricity generation portfolio. In 2007, IPLs generation resources included 86% coming from coal and oil, said Brandi Davis-Handy, Director of External Communications, Indianapolis Power and Light Company (IPL). Our current plans, subject to IURC approval, will include 55% coal, 33% natural gas, 10% wind and solar, and 2 % oil by 2017.
IPL provides retail electric service to more than 470,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers in Indianapolis and other central Indiana communities. During June of 2013, IPL was recognized as a top utility for renewable power programs by the Department of Energys National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
This award is received on the heels of IPLs involvement with the IND Solar Farm Project. Solar generation is an important part of IPLs commitment to developing renewable generating resources. There are currently plans to add more than 30 new solar generation systems in IPLs service territory. These new projects would increase the total solar power under contract by IPL to nearly 100 megawatts. IPL will likely be #1 in the Central Region of the U.S. for solar generation, assuming all of the projects in our systems interconnection queue are completed by their developers.
IPLs commitment to supplying Indiana with safe, reliable, responsible power to customers has never been more apparent. IPL is committed to continuing to meet their customers’ needs for providing safe, reliable, and affordable power. Since the company’s creation in 1926, IPLs people have been committed to being the best in the industry.
IPL continues to safely deliver affordable electricity and great service, with current residential and commercial rates that are well below industry averages and customer service ratings that are among the best.
Offering compelling and cost-effective energy efficiency programs to our customers, as well as maintaining a balanced electricity generation portfolio are part of IPLs commitment to our customers, said Kelly Huntington, President of IPL. We believe the changes we are making now are the best option to meet new and upcoming environmental standards while keeping the cost to customers affordable.
The $ 35-$ 40 million dollar alternative energy project is a significant public-private partnership that includes the Indianapolis Airport Authority (IAA), the City of Indianapolis, and privately held businesses GES, Telamon Corporation, Johnson Melloh Solutions, Cenergy Power and Indianapolis Power & Light Company. All entities involved are committed to finding creative solutions to increase sustainability in Indianapolis while helping diversify generation sources of electric power for Indianapolis business and residential customers.
