One could be forgiven for thinking that the airport with the most passengers in the world would not have the capacity to also deal with the very personal matter of private jet charter.
Heathrow airport, however, has both a private terminal and a Royal Suite which are used to handle business jet charter and larger private aircraft charter operations from the airport.
Arriving up to 2½ hours before departure is not for these travellers. Nor the interminable queues to check-in, negotiate security, survive the retail nirvana before queuing again to board the aircraft.
No, these travellers turn up when they are ready to leave ! Usually around 20 minutes before boarding will be sufficient. Those leaving their cars can park them directly outside the private terminal before entering the sumptuously furnished lounge, where they cam be introduced to their pilot and ascertain if they are ready to depart.
Whilst the pilots complete their pre-flight checks the passengers can relax and enjoy the facilities if they wish. Equally they can proceed directly to the security formalities.
A business aircraft charter is not exempt from the security formalities and regulations which the scheduled airline passenger undergoes. However, because the only people undergoing the checks are those travelling on the private aircraft, then it is that much quicker.
An example of the efficiency of private aircraft charter from Heathrow can be seen with a recent charter by a Premiership football team.
The 30 passengers arrived at the private terminal on their team coach and were then driven directly to The Royal Suite, under escort of the private terminal staff.
At The Royal Suite they passed though the security formalities and within 10 minutes all 30 passengers had boarded the aircraft, which was waiting no more than 30 metres from the terminal exit.
All baggage was placed in the aircraft hold, never having left the sight of the passengers throughout and never having disappeared into some anonymous carrousel system, leaving its owners to wonder if it would re-appear at the destination.
And within 20 minutes of leaving their coach, they were taxying in the aircraft for departure.
Suffice to say that the return flight into Heathrow was equally as impressive and effortless, the coach driving directly to the aircraft steps in order to take the passengers back from whence they came.
The benefits of private aircraft charter are many and varied, but clearly the efficient and effective use of time is high on the priority list of many who charter.
And even the airport which has the most passengers in the world passing through it can accommodate those who require a more discreet, faster and personal service which private aircraft charter provides.
