Garmin Forerunner 620 has been named the running innovation of the year by the folks at the Heart Rate Watch Company.

GROUNDBREAKING

“It is not often that new products come along and make more than a half dozen incremental improvements, all of which are significant,” says Rusty Squire, President of the Heart Rate Watch Company. He adds, “That is exactly what the Forerunner 620 did.”

RUN OSCILLATION

“The 620 built an entirely new type of chest strap with accelerometer technology that measure the vertical bounce in your stride, known as run oscillation,” says Squire. He adds, “By working on mid-foot running, runners can reduce this bounce and make their running more efficient and faster.”

FOOT TO GROUND CONTACT TIME

“The HRM-Run chest strap uses accelerometers to compute your ground contact time, reduce it and you run faster,” says Squire. He adds, “The strap also measure run cadence, so no more foot pod is required to get foot falls per minute data.”

ULTRA-LIGHT and THIN

Garmin Forerunner 620 shaved a full ounce of weight off what was the Garmin 610, which is very significant,” says Squire. He adds, “Over the course of a marathon you’ll be moving over 1,100 pounds less weight because your arms are swinging so it is active weight.”

TACK SHARP, FULL COLOR HIGH RESOLUTION SCREEN

The 620 screen is 108px which is a significant increase in screen resolution over previous versions, plus the screen can display colors but typically not the running metrics,” says Squire. He adds, “It’s the sharpest screen on the market and satellite acquisition is lightening fast, a few seconds in many cases.”

VO2 MAX and PREDICTED RACE TIMES

“This watch estimates your VO2 max and predicts races times for 5k, 10k, half and full marathon,” says Squire. He adds, “I put a bit less credence in this because the only way to get a truly accurate VO2 is to go to a human performance lab,” says Squire.

SUMMARY

“Overall, Garmin 620 has the largest level of incremental improvements we have ever seen from generation to generation in running watches,” says Squire. He adds, “For performance improvement potential this is the best new running product to come out for all of 2013 barnone.”

“If you’d like to talk to a real expert then simply give us a call here at the Heart Rate Watch Company at 866-586-7129,” says Squire. He adds, “We’ve got real runners on staff here that can help answer all your questions.”
